Everything is Awesome

This year for the Piotique Parade, Clay County Medical Center went with a LEGO themed float. To start off, a LEGO making party for employees and their family members was held in the Education Centers.

Employees, spouses, children and grandchildren joined our effort and helped construct the LEGOs to support the Building Memories theme. While eating popcorn and watching the Lego movie, we still managed to construct over thirty LEGOs.

The blocks were made out of cardboard boxes and plastic fruit cups.  In case of rain, all were covered with brightly covered plastic table covers. Each LEGO had a sign which represented a department of the hospital.

During the parade, the song, “Everything Is Awesome” played on the float as it made its way downtown through the crowd of Clay Center, KS. Kids in the crowd danced along with children who rode the float sang and danced to the music as we went by. The main character, Emmet from the LEGO movie, was enjoyed by all.  Hospital employees walked beside the float and tossed candy. CEO Ron Bender once again built the platform for the float and drove the vehicle which pulled it in the parade.  Ron has helped with parades throughout his sixteen years at the hospital.  We will miss his leadership and enthusiasm for Piotique.

"Each department plays an important role as members of the healthcare team and make a big difference," said Marcia Newell, Director of Planning & Development at Clay County Medical Center. “We are pleased to honor our team of employees with our Piotique Parade participation.”

Clay County Medical Center’s “Everything is Awesome, When You Are Part of the Team” LEGO float was named the winning float in the Piotique Parade as it best matched this year’s “Building Memories” theme.
