Building For A Healthy Future

Over the last year, the Board of Trustees and I have been planning for the future of CCMC. We have an outstanding team of medical providers, nurses, ancillary staffed departments and administrative staff.  It is commendable they have done so well in adapting 2016 workflow to our 1960’s hospital structure. I am grateful for their efforts. The Board and I believe CCMC has a very bright future. To continue our success and growth as an organization, we must have the right facilities and environment.  Patients have many options for healthcare.  We want to be the facility of choice for residents of this community.

The County Commissioners adopted a resolution to add a special question to the August 2nd election ballot in Clay County. This question will ask the voters of Clay County if they would support the County in issuing General Obligation Bonds for the purpose of financing the cost of constructing an addition to the hospital.

I want to make it very clear why we have chosen this option for financing:

  • CCMC can complete the new addition and remodel without raising taxes or our current mill levy.
  • Our existing mill levy will cover future bond payments.
  • The efforts of the dedicated employees over the last year have put CCMC in a desirable financial situation.

As a board, we thought it was important for this issue to be on the ballot. We desire a vote of confidence for providing expanded services.

  • New patient rooms with private showers and individual heating/cooling
  • Three new birthing suites
  • New surgical suites- expanded capabilities impossible in our current operating rooms
  • New entrance with a large canopy so patients are not exposed to elements
  • Comfortable seating with private admission bays in the front entrance
  • Space available to expand outpatient services
  • Renovated Women’s Imaging area
  • Chapel in memory of Ruth Ann Smith

    • Current plan will allow construction without disruption in patient services.
    • Efficient mechanical and electrical systems.
    • Updated facilities make it much easier to recruit physicians.

If the voters of Clay County approve to move forward with issuing General Obligation Bonds on August 2nd, we will start meeting with each department individually (nursing, surgery, radiology, lab, etc.) in September, October, and November for a final design of their area.

During the months of June and July, Marcia Newell from the Foundation will join me in sharing our plans for the future in Clay Center and our surrounding communities.

These are very exciting times for CCMC!  Help us make the right choice for OUR PATIENTS, OUR COMMUNITY and OUR FUTURE. With your vote of confidence on the August ballot, we will continue the tradition of providing the best patient care possible.

As always, if you have questions, please call or visit my office. My door is always open.
